Transplanting

Some varieties we grow have a very long growing season, so they are started in plastic tunnels to get a head start. Our heirloom tomatoes, specialty peppers and eggplants are started inside in March.

When the temperature settles aboud mid-May, we transplant them into beds we make that are covered with black plastic mulch, with drip tape running under the mulch for irrigation. The mulch heats up the soil in the spring, prevents weed growth, and keeps the fruit clean and away from the soil.
